Tennis Court Maintenance And Care

  • Release tension on net after days play do not tighen net more than is necessary to bring net to proper height of 36".

  • Nets that are left to tight for long periods of time will cause posts to heave and lean inward, causing cracks in court surface.

  • Keep courts clean; remove leaves and debris from court surfaces and along fence line.

  • Keep vegetation cleared from around outside of court. Weeds and grasses should be kept controlled around court with weed killer such as "ortho ground clear".

  • Trees branches and shrubs should be pruned back away from fence line. Trees will send roots under surface causing humps and cracking in surface.

  • Overhanging tree branches drop leaves and sap on surface causing discoloration and eventually develop algae which leads to a slippery surface.

  • Keeping weeds trees and shrubs pruned back away from the court edges, allows the court to drain properly. Also allows sunlight and air to circulate freely so court will not have damp areas where algae can develop.

  • Keep area outside of the court graded even or below the surface elevation, weeds, bark mulch and flower beds can cause a daming effect around court preventing proper drainage.

  • Insects such as ants and mud wasps should be treated with an insect control such as "ortho max".

  • Ants like to create nests around fence and net posts, causing an undermining of the court surface, which will lead to cracking or depressions in the surface.
